Veterans Home Renovation

Guidon led the renovation of an 80-bed domiciliary for the Illinois Veterans Home Quincy, the largest and oldest veteran home in Illinois. This project, in collaboration with the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs and HDR, reflects Guidon’s dedication to creating caring environments that improve the lives of veterans.

Our team provided comprehensive planning, code and VA Technical Information Library compliance review, and interior architecture fit-out services. As the Architect of Record for the interior architecture, we ensured every design element met the highest standards.

We identified and addressed the discrepancies in the SEPS-PFD (Space and Equipment Planning Program for Design) from the initial program through each design phase. We adhered to VA Space Planning Criteria for Small Homes and the VA Small Homes Design Manual. The interior architecture featured private one-bedroom and studio apartments with strategically framed front doors to align with VA Anti Barrier Guidelines. The domiciliary included living rooms, dens, a classroom, a gym, and a large dining room to foster community building and social interactions. Finishes and fixtures were selected to provide a sense of hospitality, promoting a feeling of value, comfort, and belonging. An inviting, universal residential aesthetic, ample daylighting, and flexibility for each veteran to personalize their independent living space were prioritized in the facility.

Through a holistic approach to design and construction, our team delivered a project that was completed on time and had a significant impact on providing a healthy living environment for veterans. Our focus on listening, collaboration, asking the right questions, and thoughtful design ensured the project’s success.
