Indianapolis Airport Hotel
Guidon serves as both the sustainability consultant and structural engineer for the Indianapolis Airport Authority (IAA) Airport Hotel. Our structural engineering scope focuses on three key areas: the main drop-off canopy, the top-level patio area, and the back-of-house space between the hotel and the airport’s parking garage.
The drop-off canopy will be a defining feature of the hotel entrance, providing shelter while ensuring durability, efficiency, and long-term performance. The rooftop vegetated patio, designed as a vibrant open space with native plantings, quality views, and a biophilic design, requires careful structural planning to support high occupancy loads and integrated landscaping element. Additionally, the roof-top patio will contribute to the LEED® v4 BD+C Silver-level certification and the IAA’s Sustainability goals.
From the project’s inception, Guidon has played a pivotal role as the sustainability consultant, ensuring alignment with IAA’s ambitious environmental goals. Given these objectives, the hotel must meet stringent criteria to achieve LEED certification. We have guided project teams by educating stakeholders on sustainability principles, establishing practical and achievable goals, and verifying compliance through calculations, reviews, and documentation. Additionally, we have collaborated with designers and team members to clarify LEED requirements and documentation, reducing the burden on project teams while seamlessly integrating sustainability into both design and construction.
Our structural team is also developing the back-of-house area, which will facilitate smooth operations for the hotel and the airport.
