Dialysis Unit Renovation and Expansion

The Dialysis unit at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center faced challenges due to aging infrastructure, inefficient workflows, and outdated mechanical systems, which impacted patient care. To overcome these challenges, Guidon delivered comprehensive design services for the unit’s renovation and expansion, creating a modern, efficient space for both patients and staff. 

Located on the 5th Floor B-wing of the main hospital Building 111, the renovation involved demolishing existing interiors and redesigning the space to meet contemporary dialysis patient needs. Our team conducted on-site surveys to map existing staff and patient flow/processes, integrating these insights into the project program to ensure optimal clinical outcomes. A new reverse osmosis water system was installed and piped to the patient bays for dialysis treatment. 

Through strategic space planning, we enhanced patient flow, boosted staff efficiency, and created a more comfortable treatment experience. The outdated and windowless space was transformed into a modern, patient-friendly environment with improved workflow efficiency, M/E/P infrastructure, and daylighting. The nurse station, previously located at the end of the treatment areas with no visual access to patients, was moved to the center of the space, ensuring patients are always physically and visually accessible. The new design also introduced natural light to the treatment areas and added private/isolated treatment rooms. 

Bright, open areas and state-of-the-art equipment enhance the overall patient experience and support the staff in delivering high-quality care.
