Community Living Center Addition

The Trinka Davis Community Living Center (CLC) expansion was designed with a patient-centered approach, ensuring veterans receive personalized care with integrity, respect, and commitment.

Guidon’s First 15%® process played a crucial role in shaping the facility, which primarily serves veterans in hospice and end-of-life care. Early engagement with VA leadership and end-user groups through collaborative charrettes allowed the team to define project goals and develop tailored solutions that prioritize patient needs.

Enhancing clinical functionality was a top priority. The facility includes 12 new private patient rooms, two of which are designed for bariatric patients, accommodating individuals up to 1,000 pounds. Each room features a private bathroom and space for a co-sleeper visitor. Widened hallways and doorways improve accessibility, ensuring seamless navigation for residents with varying mobility needs. Abundant natural light and secure enclosed patios allow patients to connect with nature while maintaining safety and comfort.

Beyond patient rooms, the design fosters community and social interaction. A shared living and dining space provides opportunities for veterans to gather, share meals, and engage with visitors, reinforcing a sense of belonging. Elevated ceilings and expansive windows maximize daylight, creating an inviting and uplifting atmosphere.

Sustainability and biophilic design—the integration of natural elements into the built environment—were key considerations. Thoughtful use of daylight, color, and texture enhances patient well-being, while materials and finishes were selected for both their environmental impact and therapeutic benefits while meeting infection control standards for each cleaning.

With this expansion, Guidon delivered a healing-focused environment that supports both patient care and staff efficiency, ensuring veterans receive the dignity and comfort they deserve.
