Cancer Center Pavilion Renovation

The Carmel Cancer Center Pavilion Renovation Project renovates approximately 41,000 s.f. of space to move Medical Oncology services within the building. Guidon is providing architecture, interior design, plumbing design, and medical equipment planning. Hospital leadership and key stakeholders were heavily engaged in design charrettes. These multi-day meetings presented various solutions/scenarios considering all relevant criteria and options. The Guidon team developed solutions that addressed specific client needs and wants.

The Medical Oncology area design focuses on exam rooms and infusion treatment services. The waiting room has increased spaced for infection prevention of an immunocompromised patient population. Nurses will have visibility of treatment infusion bays from centralized nurse stations. The pharmacy is designed to be connected to the infusion space in order to provide treatment as efficiently as possible. The project will be completed in two distinct phases.

The renovations include building out three new suites to accommodate Medical Oncology, Infusion, and Pharmacy services, complying with 797/800 pharmaceutical regulations. As a result of this restructuring, Pediatric services will be moved to a different location. Other suites will accommodate different services, including Breast Imaging and Physical Therapy (Phase One). The second phase relocates services from their current locations to accommodate the new build-outs and programs. This will leave the space open to construction modifications with minimal disruption to day-to-day functions. Lab spaces were designed with flexibility in mind. No base cabinets were included; those were replaced with open shelving above to allow for the movement of staff and equipment. All walkways are designed to accommodate transport stretchers, wheelchairs, and bariatrics wheelchairs. Exterior renderings represent an addition to the east and a possible new covered entry for patient drop off.
